Re: Essay of Application to the Elementary Education Program

Memo:
We were asked to write a 200 word essay on why we would like to teach. I respectfully ask that you would be willing to accept a bit of a different approach to my essay. I communicate my thoughts most effectively through poetry and thought that perhaps it would be a unique way to share my reasoning for the passion God has granted to me for teaching.
“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, except that I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has set before me, the task of testifying to the Gospel of God’s grace.” Acts 20:24

The Task

It is
a lofty goal,
a life to affect,
a change to be made,
His heart to reflect.

My desire and passion
Come from within,
Far from perfect
Still riddled with sin.

To learn is to inspire
So much knowledge there is to acquire.

To teach is my dream
A way of life, so it would seem.

I can’t explain how or why
Their young eager faces mean so much to me,
Except to say, that in their eyes,
So much potential do I see.

It will not be easy,
Some days, I shall lose my smile
But at the end of it all,
When I wave that parting wave, it is all worthwhile.

To learn is to inspire
So much knowledge there is to acquire

To teach is my dream,
A way of life, so it would seem.

My ultimate reason for wanting to teach is to impart knowledge to children. My greatest joy comes from seeing one of my student’s eyes light up at the idea of learning something new. To see a child, after struggling to understand a new concept, catch on with such excitement and exuberance; nothing else can quite equate to the elation of that moment. I want to teach Truth to children through my life, in and out of the classroom. I want to teach as a witness of Christ.
