her eyes have changed.
she saw it in the mirror
they saw it when they took that first glance
she stepped out
and they knew there was a difference
she has them peering close
trying to understand
her eyes are open now
she sees in reality
past the old fantasy
her eyes are darker,
but her light, she has been told, is brighter
she put away the makeup
put away the mask
she can see at last
she understands where she came from
knows where she has been
and she knows she isn't going back again
she may view it with black and white
but at least the gray is gone
and truth along with color is in sight
her eyes have changed
she can see now who she is meant to be
