Leslie
your questions I ignored
your pleas went unanswered
you begged as I walked away
my secert I would not confess
my deeds made to lies when put to the test
there was no story for me to you to tell
so by the wayside you fell
your face held a simple mask worn by day
but your eyes betrayed your heart
your soul yearned for more
and still I was content to see you poor
eventually your search subsided
to a different path your feet soon glided
yet I could feel your backward glance
sidelong stare, as you wondered
how I could dare
keep from you, what I supposedly held true
I claimed His name
but you and I both know that my words
were just a game
as time went by,
I soon forgot you
had even asked or wondered
and gradually my own faith, took a quiet plunder
that day I heard you were gone however,
on that day, did I remember
and it is your eyes that haunt me now,
as before Him, I do bow
I ponder if you found the truth you sought,
if you ever recieved surrender
I am so sorry I did not share,
sorry I did not tell
you how to avoid Hell
now I must wait and see
if there was one braver than me
one that spoke so you could hear
the truth, that I obviously didn't hold nearly as dear
someday hopefully I will see,
that Heaven is where our meeting place might be.
